Ok so the first load of kids arrived on Thursday evening and I’m not gonna lie, I was shitting a brick. Camp Janus is a camp for kids who are burns victims. I was just worried I wouldnt handle it or I would freak out but I actually had the most amazing time with these campers. The strength in them is phenomenal, they are literally the most outgoing and confident kids I have met in a long time. A lot of them are missing fingers or large parts of their hands, most of them have severe burns but it doesn’t stop them from trying. That’s what I love about this place, even if you are in a wheelchair you can still go up the climbing wall and go down the zipline because there is always a way! I’ll give an example of something incredible. I was working the highest point on the high ropes course and it’s a pretty difficult climb to get up there for me, never mind kids. So this one kid pushed himself so hard to get to the top and he made it, I was so impressed. But when he got there his legs were bleeding really heavily because of the strain being put on them. He was told by his councellors on the ground he’d have to come down but he said no and pushed himself right to the end and went down the zipline. I was just so amazed, like that kinda willpower is something else. It’s been a lot of fun. I had to ride a doney at a rodeo which proceeded to buck me off and 20 mins later I was chasing a trailer, covered in brown paint dressed as a Wookie. This place is the shit. I miss home a lot though. I also haven’t spoken to my mum since I left which I feel really bad about. If someone sees her please let her know that. Love and miss you all!
