For months I’ve been told about this “phenomenon” of a film. It, along with the other two in the trilogy, seems to have sparked this mass buzz in the space of only a year or so. I know the books have been international bestsellers but the films themselves have been hugely popular. I think this is even more surprising due to the fact they’re in Swedish, it’s not very often a film which requires subtitles or an English dub actually does well in the box office. I decided to watch it tonight after dozens of customers telling me how fantastic it is and it genuinely lives up to the hype. It’s a Saturday and I have a Haagen Dazs so I watched it with the dubbed version. Now, I haven’t actually read the books so I can’t compare, but I think the film is absolutely first-class. There’s a real grittiness to it which is something very common in European films. There’s no fear of nudity, some of the scenes are extremely graphic and others are nothing more than the actor sitting alone. There’s very little action or explosions, just a fantastic story being told. I would definitely recommend starting the trilogy. Hollywood now has it’s hands on it and will no doubt release an action packed, polished blockbuster…
